WWE Vengeance 2011 Match Card & Poster

WWE Vengeance
Last night's (Oct. 17) episode of Raw Supershow saw the addition of a couple matches to the upcoming WWE Vengeance pay-per-view on Oct. 23 in San Antonio. The updated match card is as follows:
WWE Vengeance 2011 Match Card
Matches:
John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio in a Last Man Standing match for the WWE championship
The added stipulation was necessary to drive a little interest in a feud that is falling seriously flat but they gave about 10 minutes notice by announcing as much just before the close of the go-home show last night. That doesn't bode well. Cena's comment about how Del Rio had never beat him in a match also made this feel like there's no reason to expect anything different, even though there is.

Mark Henry vs. Big Show for the world heavyweight championship
I never thought I would be excited for a match-up like this for a major title on a pay-per-view would sell me but the combined charisma of both men is off the charts and I'm sold on this one.

Triple H and CM Punk vs. The Miz and R-Truth
I hate the build to this match and still feel very strongly that Raw has been handled poorly for weeks on end now but the collective talent involved in this match should be enough to make for something worth watching. There's also the slight possibility that Kevin Nash will return here.

Beth Phoenix vs. Eve Torres for the Diva's championship
They needed to book a match for the women's champion and they did. Nothing more, nothing less.

Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes
Yes, you've seen this feud before but Orton wasn't over as a babyface as much as he is now. It's pretty wild to hear arenas explode so much for him despite his not really doing anything at all to justify as much. I'm not saying he's not incredibly good at what he does, just that I find it puzzling how he receives such incredible ovations. WWE reportedly wanted to capitalize on the buzz created by Rhodes bleeding hardway on Smackdown a few weeks back by putting these two together and that's what has been done. The fact that the Intercontinental title isn't on the line, though, makes it clear who's going over here.

Air Boom vs. Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger for the tag team championships
I still don't like it that they completely bailed on the Ziggler vs. Swagger feud with little to no explanation. That said, they make for a good heel team and it makes sense to give them a title shot at a pay-per-view considering how sad the tag team division looks right now. It does devalue the hell out of the United States championship, though. I wonder how many fans can actually name the U.S. titleholder right now.
